How to Install Google Analytics in Joomla

If currently you are not using Google Analytics you are not tracking the traffic on your website. It is very simple to install it on your website and today we will show you how:

1. Go to https://www.google.com/analytics/settings/home and login. You will need to have Google account and if you don’t Create One
2. If you are automatically taken to a new version click on Make Old Version Default
3. Click Add Website Profile and follow the steps
4. Type your domain name, country and time zone and press Continue
5. You will be taken to the Tracking Code page. Now the process of adding Tracking code varies for different Joomla versions.
6. Add Tracking Code

If you are using Joomla 1.5:

• Log in to your website admin panel with username and password www.yoursite.com/administrator/
• On top of the screen select Extensions>Template Manager
• Click on Default Template Name
• Click on Edit HTML
• Scroll down all the way to the bottom and find tag </body>

• You should paste the code just before this tag
• Go back to Google Analytics Tracking Code page and select HTML code (located under 2. Paste this code on your site)

• Go back to your Joomla Admin Page and paste the code just before tag </body>

• Click Save and Google Analytics is installed on your Joomla website.

If you are using Joomla 1.7:

• Log in to your website admin panel with username and password www.yoursite.com/administrator/
• On top of the screen select Extensions>Template Manager
• Click on Default Template Name
• In the template menu click on Features
• Scroll down to the bottom and you should see Google Analytics
• Go back to Google Analytics Tracking Code page and select UA Code on top of the page. It is called Web Property ID and starts with UA-xxxxxxx-x
• Go back to your Joomla Admin Panel click Enable ON and paste your code under UA Code
• Click Save and Google Analytics is installed on your Joomla website.
